28 Nov Stephen Whipp Financial of Leede Jones Gable claims the EcoStar Award for Greenest Office
“By claiming the EcoStar Award for Greenest office, Stephen Whipp Financial of Leede Jones Gable Inc. shows that we all can move the dial each day to a more sustainable community through small changes in our behaviour”, says Managing Director, Stephen Whipp.
“If the global community is going to have a chance at meeting, or exceeding the targets laid out in the Paris Accord, then we need to look at taking appropriate steps in all aspects of our lives, from our purchasing decisions to our investment strategies”, said Whipp.
In an effort to be friendlier to the environment, Whipp and his team have instituted several actions around the office, such as, sorting their waste into 6 different streams, nearly eliminating garbage that goes to a landfill and offsetting their Hydro usage with wind and solar energy purchased through Bullfrog Power. The entire team also uses alternative methods of transportation for their commute, opting to bus, bike, or drive hybrid or electric vehicles instead.
“It only makes sense to reduce the negative impact our daily activities have on the environment”, says Whipp, “We share our clients’ environmental values which we use to cater their investment portfolios to, why wouldn’t we apply those same values to the daily operations of our offices, as well”.
Shining a spotlight on outstanding environmental achievements and leadership by businesses, organizations and individuals, the third annual EcoStar Awards took place on Thursday, November 16th, 2017. The Gala was hosted by Synergy Sustainability Institute at the Inn at Laurel Point, in Victoria, BC and had over 75 businesses in attendance, including representatives from across Vancouver Island.
